    In 2022 The Engine Shed spoke to publishers about their needs. Some highlights from our report are;


    - Online or print? There was no correlation between digital publications and success. Print or online could equally be either successful or equally challenged

    - The biggest consideration when selecting software was ease of use followed by functionality.

    - 70% of publishers demand ALL the following functionality from their software; ad sales, production workflow management, copy chasing, reporting, invoicing, systems integration, subscriptions management and CRM capabilities

    - The majority (60%) of publishers felt their software needed to be bespoke to publishing

    - 30% of publishers use software to either save or use elsewhere between 1& 3 full time members of staff
